key lime pie

Key Lime Pie. I never understood why that flavor was so popular. When I think of key lime pie, my mouth cringes in anticipation of the sour lime juice found on fish tacos and can’t imagine how that could possibly be a good flavor for dessert. I know, weird association. I guess that’s why I never gave the flavor a chance, but I’ve always been curious.

I don’t know if it was the warm weather or how the pretty key lime pie cupcakes were displayed at Georgetown Cupcakes that lead me to give the flavor a chance today. Whatever it was I’m glad that I threw my preconceptions of the flavor out the window and took a bite. OMG it was DELISH! It was the perfect balance of sugary sweet and tarty lime on top of a deliciously moist cupcake. How did I ever live my life without this scrumptious dessert option? Now that its associations to fish tacos are gone, I might as well give key lime martinis a chance too.
