on the border

Happy Cinco de Mayo! In honor of this Mexican holiday, the BF and I headed out to On The Border for dinner and drinks.
We started off with a pitcher of sangria, which was WACK! I couldn't believe that we got carded to drink grape juice. The sangria must have been premixed and the waiter forgot to add the wine. Not only did the sangria lack the taste of red wine, but the fruits came straight from the bar...lime, lemon, and orange wedges. Whatever mix they used to make this sangria needs to be retired. It was straight up liquid diabetes. I mean if I'm going to drink all that sugar, I need some alcohol to make it worth the extra calories! For dinner I ordered the shrimp tacos.

A delicious Border Smart alternative. Two fresh flour tortillas with shrimp sauteed in spicy salsa fresca, lettuce and pico de gallo. Served with black beans and grilled vegetables.

Sounds appetizing right? WRONG. What a waste of $10.49. The shrimp had no flavor, they skimped out on the toppings, and the tortillas were soggy. They should be punished for false advertising...spicy salsa fresca? Yeah it was spicy, AFTER I hit it up with some tabasco! I asked the waiter if I could have the cilantro lime rice instead of the regular Mexican rice. What a joke. They must have just added green food coloring to the rice, because there was absolutely no hint of cilantro or lime. I definitely didn't waste my carb intake on that mess. The best thing on the plate was the black beans.

There's nothing I hate more than spending money on bad food. Next year we're definitely going to make our own tacos and sangria for Cinco de Mayo. Or better yet, we'll just hit up Chipotle ;o)

  1. Damn. That's too bad. It looks like a bad plate of food from Chevy's or Austin Grill or some other "Mexican" (using the term loosely)place. yuck.
