a bite of greece, turkey, and lebanon in DC

On Saturday the BF and I ventured into DC with one of our favorite couples to check out the museums and enjoy the springish weather. After hitting up the portrait gallery, we stumbled into Zaytinya to "snack" on some Greek, Turkish, and Lebanese inspired fare. The waiter suggested we each order 3 dishes to share, but we opted for the pick 3 spreads:

Hommus (puree of chickpeas, garlic and tahini)
Htipiti (marinated roasted red peppers, feta, thyme)
Tzatziki (yogurt with diced cucumbers and dill)

which we ate with the bread. The bread was so good, that I forgot to take a picture of it. Then we each ordered one mezze. Below are two of my favorites. We also ordered the mini crab cakes and Shish Taouk (grilled chicken, sumac onions, grilled tomatoes, garlic tuom), which were also outstanding. The grilled chicken was super tender and packed with flavor and the crab cakes were packed with crab meat.

Octopus Santorini
grilled baby octopus, marinated onions, capers , yellow split pea puree

The shrimp was soooo good! I'm definitely going to try and recreate the sauce in my own kitchen :p The octopus was delish and was just the right portion for the four of us to share. The octopus had a nice smokey flavor that the sauce complimented. We're so glad we didn't listen to the waiter and order 3 dishes each! We walked away full and 100% satisfied.
