DC's eastern market

Weather in the DC metro area is so unstable around this time of the year. Temperatures fluctuate from high to low, leaving us in between sun dresses and turtle necks. Today we're in the 50's and on the verge of thunderstorms. It's supposed to rain all weekend, so I'm glad I took advantage of last weekend's weather. The sun was out and blazing, check out the temperature reading in my car:

Thank goodness I wore a dress, or else I would have never made it through last Saturday's eastern market adventure. I met up with my friends at Susan's house in capitol hill. With Susan's kids in tow (Downing & Nicky), we walked to the eastern market to check out the vendors and grab a bite to eat. The vendors sell all sorts of stuff ranging anywhere from fresh food, art, clothes, and even old maps that date back to the 1800's. It's a pretty cool experience, especially when you're among good friends and nice weather. With the temperature in the high 90's we were glad to step inside the south hall building for some shade and a bite to eat. Here are some shots of Downing checking out the vendors in south hall while the rest of the crew is waiting in "the market lunch" line.

After about 25 minutes in line, we were able to order: blueberry pancakes w/pecans (original and buckwheat), spinach and pine nut omelet with grits, English muffins, the crab cake breakfast.

Check out our spread. I know it's a lot of food, but hey we ate family style ;o)

All the food was delicious, but if I had to order only one thing from the menu that day it would have been the crab cake breakfast (eggs over easy, grits w/butter, and a crab cake). The crab cake was cooked perfectly and had more than enough crab to satisfy a crab lover's bite.

If you've never been to the eastern market in DC, you should make plans to check it out. With all the different vendors out there you'll never know what you'll find during your stroll through the market.
