bangkok day #3 - tuk tuk travels

After the previous night's drinking adventures, it was nice to start the day off with a tall glass of fresh watermelon juice.

Phranakorn Nornlen's breakfast was 100% vegetarian and yummy as usual. Thai fried rice, veggie soup, and a coconut, tapioca, and jackfruit dessert.

Thai fried rice with pineapples ;o)

After breakfast we headed to the Grand Palace to check out the scene. It was so hot outside, even the guards outside the palace had their umbrellas up!

Our plans to check out the Grand Palace was put on hold when the guard told us that it was closed for Thai locals today for a special prayer. He persuaded us to let a tuk tuk driver take us around town for an hour until the Grand Palace opened back up for tourists. Thinking he was legit we obliged and took in the following sights:

The standing Buddha...

the lucky Buddha...

and several silk/clothing/jewelry shops aka "tourist traps".

Yup, we got scammed by a tuk tuk driver. By the time the driver took us back to the Grand Palace, we only had an hour before closing time. Never ever let anyone tell you that the Grand Palace is closed, check it out for yourself! Since an hour isn't enough time to scope out the Grand Palace, we decided to check out Wat Pho across the street for a much needed Thai massage ($12). After the massage we were ready to grub, so we headed down to little India in a cab.

After walking up many streets and through different alleys, we finally found an Indian restaurant that looked and smelled promising. We ordered a variety of dishes and hot naan to satisfy our empty stomachs.

Here's what my plate looked like:

Oh. Em. Ge. The food was so good. We were so stuffed that we wanted to walk around some more to "aid our digestion". We hailed another pretty pink cab to the Saun Lum night bazaar and ended the night with some mango gelato.
