bangkok day #2 - the world’s largest weekend market

After breakfast we headed back to Khao San Road to buy some tour packages for later on in the week. Once we were all booked, we took a cab to the Chatuchak market to get our shop on. This market is no joke, often called JJ, it covers over 35 acres and contains over 5,000 stalls. After a few hours of shopping, we headed towards the food section to grab a bite. This was the winner of the 90+ degree day: Thai iced tea

After lunch we headed back into the market to strike more deals before closing time. By the time we left the market the sun was gone and our bellies were growling. On our way to catch the skytrain we came across another street vendor that was selling these colorful sandwiches. Of course the vendor didn't speak a lick of English to explain what was in between the slices of bread, so we made a safe bet and chose the one that looked like a grilled cheese sandwich.

We were wrong! It tasted like ensaymada aka butter and sugar. Whatever it was tasted good enough to settle our bellies before we headed out to the RCA area (royal city avenue) to party at route 66. We did bottle service at the place because the bottles were cheap, even though they didn't carry any of our faveys. For $30 we settled for a bottle of Smirnoff.

After we shut the club down we headed to some spot for breakfast. I can't remember too much, except that everything tasted good. I also remember noticing that they didn't have any mustard to go with their ketchup (you always notice weird things when you're drunk). Instead they had chili ketchup, which tasted like a ketchup and tabasco mix :o)

We ended the night with some banana spring rolls with ice cream.
