Every time my girl April is in town I'm pretty much guaranteed a weekend filled with good eats. This weekend we thought it would be fun to find all the yummy cupcakes that the DC metro area has to offer aka DC metro Cupcake Crawl 2009. We started the big CC on Thursday at Cupcakes Actually in Fairfax corner. Dubbing themselves "cupcake snobs" all the cakes on display looked too pretty to eat. But did they taste as good as they looked? We were about to find out.
We left the store with six flavors, pictured below starting at the bottom left (clockwise). Actually dipped peanut butter, porto vino, simply red, golden nugget, halloween vanilla cupcake, and flourless chocolate.
In our opinion, only two of the six flavors were cupcake snob worthy. The golden nugget is a fresh carrot cake with grated zucchini, golden raisins, and crushed walnuts, iced with their signature cream cheese frosting and topped golden candy nuggets. Price $3.05
The cupcake was moist and had enough grated carrots and zucchini for any carrot cake lover to enjoy! The cream cheese frosting was very tasty, and wasn't too thick or too thin for our taste :p
The flourless chocolate cupcake tasted like a perfect brownie that was baked in a cupcake liner. The cake was dense, but the butter cream frosting added just enough fluff and sweetness to enjoy the chocolate ball of goodness. Price $3.75
Check out that cupcake top! Rich, dense, and flourless...
The other four cupcakes were baked dry, actually.
cupcake/thrift crawl upon my arrival please. i can't wait.
